Salt Lake City is one of
the world's most unique cities. Determination and vision,
coupled with religious zeal and leadership, have built this city in
the desert. We will see Temple Square and the Mormon Temple,
Tabernacle, Brigham Young's homes, his monument and private burial
ground, Beehive House, Lion house, Eagle Gate, the University of
Utah, Fort Douglas, and the State capitol. We will also follow
a portion of the Old Mormon Trail with a stop at the "This is the
Place Monument."
Later, we will tour out to the shores of the Great Salt
Lake.
DAY 4
Heading north
today, we will pass through Logan, Utah and past Bear Lake and
the southern tip of Idaho on our jaunt to Jackson, Wyoming.
Later, we will sightsee the magnificent Grand Teton National Park,
enroute to Yellowstone, where we'll be staying for two nights.
Grand Teton is renown for its majestic mountain peaks, 8 large lakes
and 12 glaciers. You'll love our hotel on the shores of Lake
Yellowstone.
DAY 5
- Tour through Yellowstone National
Park
Today will
probably be one of the sightseeing highlights of your life, as we
tour one of America's most beautiful and famous National Parks,
Yellowstone. Yellowstone,
our
nation's oldest National Park, is famous for geysers, waterfalls,
wildlife, and canyons. You will see Old
Faithful, the Mud Volcano, the Paint Pots, the Grand Canyon of
Yellowstone, Mammoth Hot Springs, the Yellowstone River , Artist
Point and Fishing Bridge to name a few of the highlights.
DAY 6
We will leave Yellowstone National Park, this
morning, and take a short drive to Cody, where we'll visit the
Buffalo Bill Historical Center. There are actually four
distinct museums here with everything from Winchester Arms, to
Remington Paintings, to Indian artifacts, to Annie Oakley and
Buffalo Bill mementoes to exhibits on the natural history of the
West. You will love it!
DAY 7
We will continue through northern Wyoming today on
our way to the Black Hills in South Dakota. Once there, we
will visit one of America's last rough-and-ready frontier towns,
Deadwood. It acquired a world-wide notoriety during a
gold-rush to the Black Hills in the 1800's. Gambling and
gold, that's what made Deadwood come alive over 100 years ago,
and it's back again. But Deadwood is not to be confused
with Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Deadwood is the Old West
gaming. We will also visit Lead, home of the world famous
Homestake Gold Mine.
This evening, we
will visit Mt. Rushmore, where Gutzon Borglum sculpted the Shrine of
Democracy, with the faces of Presidents Washington, Jefferson,
Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt embedded in granite.
DAY 8
This morning, we will continue on through the Black
Hills into Nebraska and, then, Wyoming. A stop will be made in
Nebraska at Ft. Robinson, where Crazy Horse was killed in 1877 and
German prisoners of war were held during World War II. We will
spend the evening in Cheyenne, the ranching capital of the Cowboy
State. You will love the Capitol Building.
DAY 9
We will tour the "Mile High City," Denver, this
morning, where we will briefly tour this wonderful city.
Highlights will include, the State Capitol Building - with its dome
sheathed in gold leaf, the US Mint, the Brown Palace - (of the
Unmistakable Molly Brown fame), Larimer Square, and the Mile High
Stadium.
Then it's off
through the Colorado Rockies to Grand Junction. The drive
through Glenwood Canyon is simply awesome.
DAY 10
As we leave Grand Junction this morning, we
will tour the Colorado National Monument, with its thrilling
pillars and cliffs along panoramic Rimrock Drive. We will then
continue through Central and Southwest Utah to St.
George.
DAY 11
We will return
home today with many fond memories of our exciting excursion through
the states of California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming,
South Dakota, Nebraska and
Colorado!!!
