Day 1          

  • Fly to Memphis
  • Graceland Visit
  • Dinner at BB Kings
  • Hyatt Place Hotel 

 

Today, we will fly to Memphis, Tennessee with the Mississippi at her door, cotton in her marts, the blues in her heart, and a checkered
racial history.

 

Upon arrival, it’s on to Graceland, Elvis’ famous home.  You’ll marvel at his gold and platinum records, awards, and many ornate stage outfits.  The tour will end at Meditation Gardens where he is buried.

 

Day 2

  • Breakfast, Dinner
  • City Tour of Memphis

 

Today, we will enjoy a most interesting tour of this unique city which is steeped in the rich traditions of the past.  You will see Beale Street, birthplace of the Blues, Le Moyne-Owens College, Temple of Deliverance Church, underground railroad houses, Cotton Row, home of the Cotton Exchange, St. Jude’s the most renowned Children’s Research Hospital, Stax and Sun Records Studios, and Elvis Presley Plaza.  At the Peabody Hotel, we’ll attend the parade of the Mallard Ducks at 11:00.

 

Other stops will include the National Civil Rights Museum in the Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King was assassinated, and the Mississippi River Museum at Mud Island, where you’ll hear of the development of Delta Music from early blues to rock and roll.

 

Day 3

  • Breakfast, Dinner
  • Tour to Little Rock
  • Clinton Presidential Library & Museum

 

We’ll tour to Little Rock, today, where we’ll visit the Central High School National Historic Site and the Clinton Presidential Library & Museum on our city tour.

 

Day 4

  • Breakfast, Dinner
  • Tour to Birmingham
  • Holiday Inn-Express

 

We tour through bits of Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama, today, enroute to Birmingham.  In Tupelo, we’ll see the Elvis Presley Birthplace, the two room house that he once called home.

 

In Birmingham, where Dr. King wrote “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” we’ll retrace some of the worst moments in Civil Rights history, including the 16th Street Baptist Church. 
  

 

 

Day 5

  • Continental Breakfast, Dinner
  • Tour Selma, Montgomery, & Tuskegee enroute to Callaway Gardens
  • Callaway Gardens Resort

 

Our first stop today will be Selma where Dr. King led the successful, legendary voting rights march.  Next, it’s on to Montgomery to visit the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church and the Rosa Parks Library and Museum.  Later, we’ll visit Tuskegee and Tuskegee Institute, home to Booker T. Washington and Dr. George Washington Carver.

 

Day 6

  • Breakfast, Dinner
  • Tour Callaway Gardens
  • Visit FDR’s Home at Warm Springs
  • Tour to Atlanta
  • Holiday Inn-Express

 

This morning, we’ll tour the world famous Callaway Gardens.  You’ll tour the Horticultural Center, Butterfly Center, the largest free flight butterfly conservatory in North America, and reflect quietly at the Callaway Memorial Chapel.  You’ll also step back in time at the Pioneer Log Cabin and see Mr. Cason’s Vegetable Garden, the southern location for the PBS series, the Victory Garden.

 

Afterwards, we’ll tour to Warm Springs which was one of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s favorite spots and where he died on April 12, 1945.  The “Little White House” looks much the same as when he found relaxation and benefit from the nearby springs.

 

Day 7

  • Continental Breakfast
  • Tour of Atlanta
  • Fly Home

 

Highlights of our tour will include Capitol Square, the Coca-Cola Pavilion, Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthplace, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, the Sweet Auburn District, Peachtree Street, Spelman, Morris Brown & Morehouse Colleges, Clark Atlanta University, the CNN Headquarters plus much, much more!

 

Later, we’ll fly home with many memories of our tour through Civil Rights history.
