Departing November 14, 2008

 

 

Day 1

  • Fly to New Orleans
  • Drury Inn
  • Get Acquainted Happy Hour

We’ll fly to the “Crescent City,” New Orleans, today.  We’ll all get together this evening at the hotel’s cocktail party (for all arrivals before 5:00pm).  Time-permitting, we’ll also take a walking tour of the nearby French Quarter.

 

Day 2

  • Breakfast
  • City Tour of New Orleans
  • Hosted Happy Hour
  • Jazz Dinner Cruise on the Mississippi

 We will tour the “Crescent City” today.  You’ll witness the old French, Spanish and Creole sides of the city.  A bit of French and Spanish splendor preserved for you.  You will hear about the old French Quarter, old Market places, wharves, squares, dueling places, and French and Spanish homes of millionaires. Parks, gardens, giant moss-hung trees, flowers, etc.  You’ll see the Jax Brewery, Jackson Square, the Superdome, St. Charles Street, Lake Pontchatrain, one of the many famous cemeteries, City Park, the river front, Canal Street, plus much, much more!

 

Tonight we’re off to a great Jazz Dinner Cruise on the Mississippi River.  It doesn’t get much better than this!

 

Day 3

  • Breakfast, Dinner
  • Tour to Cajun Country
  • Embassy Suites – Baton Rouge
  • Hosted Happy Hour

 We’ll follow the Great River Road this morning to Cajun Country.  You’ll marvel at the many active plantations, working farms and shipping facilities along the levees and bayous.

 

Next it’s on to Lafayette and St. Martinville in the heart of Cajun Country.  In St. Martinville, we’ll view the Evangeline Statue and the Evangeline Oak, which marks the spot where the legendary heroine of the poem waited for her lover, Gabriel.

 

Day 4

  • Breakfast, Dinner
  • Tour to Natchez
  • City Tour of Natchez including an Antebellum Home
  • Hosted Happy Hour

 Today we’ll travel north through St. Francisville to Natchez, Mississippi.  There’s no more charming a town in all the south.  Her broad, tree-lined boulevards are graced with more than 40 antebellum mansions.

 

We will also sightsee a portion of the beautiful Natchez Trace Parkway.  We’ll relive what life was like along this natural trail for the early explorers and Native Americans.

 

Day 5

  • Breakfast, Dinner
  • City Tour of Baton Rouge
  • Tour to Kiln, Mississippi & the Gulf Coast
  • Isle of Capri Hotel & Casino

 We will tour Baton Rouge, this morning, and view some of the city’s highlights including the new and old Capitol Buildings, the new and old Governor’s Mansions, the LSU Campus and the city center.

 

Later, we’ll venture east to Brett Favre’s hometown, Kiln, and then the Gulf of Mexico.  Biloxi is home to one of the largest shrimp-fishing fleets and has become the Las Vegas of the South.

 

Day 6

  • Breakfast, Dinner
  • Tour to Mobile & the Bellingrath Gardens

 We will tour Mobile, Alabama, this morning.  This love city with it’s live oaks, restored mansions and World War II/ Korean War era Military Park is a delight to visit.

 

Just south of Mobile is the Bellingrath Gardens – 60 acres of flowers – in every color of the rainbow – a fantasy of color.  We’ll also tour the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bellingrath, with it’s opulent furnishings and porcelain collection.  This is a style that you could become accustomed to!!

 

Maybe tonight will be your night to win back the cost of your trip in our hotel’s casino!?!  We sure hope so.

 

Day 7

  • Breakfast
  • Fly Home

 We’ll return home today filled with great memories of the Ante-Bellum South, Cajun Country, the Gulf Coast and, of course, New Orleans!!!
